Contractor Cleaner

$25–$40/hour

Responsibilities

  • Clean all surfaces in the home: fans, blinds, light fixtures, baseboards, fixtures, counters, showers, toilets, cabinets, and floors
  • Clean floors on hands and knees in kitchens and bathrooms when needed
  • Vacuum stairs, carpet, hard-surface floors, and furniture
  • Move reasonably movable furniture to clean under and behind it
  • Show up dependable and on time, with a positive attitude

Qualifications

  • Ability to differentiate between cleaning products and their uses
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to lift and carry 20 lbs of equipment
  • Comfortable with regular exposure to pet hair, dust, and cleaning solutions
  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites

Subcontractor Agreement

Please read the full agreement below before signing. Version 1 (last updated September 2026).

This Independent Contractor Agreement ("Agreement") is between Houston City Cleaners ("Company") and the individual or company submitting a Contractor Cleaner application ("Contractor"). By checking the box below and typing your name as your signature, you agree to the terms below.

1. Independent Contractor Relationship

Contractor is an independent contractor, not an employee, partner, or agent of the Company. Contractor is free to accept or decline any specific job offered, and nothing in this Agreement guarantees Contractor a minimum amount of work. Contractor controls the manner and means of performing each job, subject to the service standards below and the Company's quality expectations.

2. Scope of Work & On-the-Job Standards

For every job assigned to and accepted by Contractor, Contractor agrees to:

  • Arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time.
  • Wear a navy blue or black t-shirt with blue or black jeans, or an official Houston City Cleaners t-shirt if one has been provided.
  • Notify Houston City Cleaners that they have arrived at the client's location before beginning work.
  • Take clear before-and-after photos documenting the condition of the property.
  • Complete and sign the quality control (QC) checklist for the job before leaving the property.
  • Keep proper documentation for every clean performed (photos, completed QC form, and any notes on the job).
  • Perform the clean to the standard described in the job's scope, using professional judgment and care.

3. Customer Satisfaction Guarantee

If a customer reports dissatisfaction with a clean Contractor performed within 24 hours of the appointment, Contractor agrees to return and correct the affected areas at no additional charge to the Company or the customer, at a time reasonably coordinated with the Company and the customer.

4. Tax Status

Contractor is solely responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes on payments received under this Agreement, including self-employment tax. The Company will issue an IRS Form 1099 as required by law and will not withhold taxes on Contractor's behalf.

5. Insurance & Liability

Contractor is responsible for maintaining their own general liability insurance covering their work, and for carrying any insurance required by law for their crew or business. Contractor agrees to indemnify and hold the Company harmless from claims, damages, or losses arising from Contractor's negligence, misconduct, or breach of this Agreement, including damage to a customer's property caused by Contractor.

6. Tools, Equipment & Supplies

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, Contractor supplies their own cleaning tools, equipment, and supplies necessary to perform each job, consistent with what Contractor declared on their application.

7. Confidentiality

Contractor agrees to keep confidential any customer information encountered while performing jobs for the Company (including names, addresses, access codes, and property details), and to use that information only to perform the assigned job, not for any other purpose.

8. Non-Solicitation

During the term of this Agreement and for 12 months after it ends, Contractor agrees not to directly solicit any customer introduced to them through the Company to book cleaning services outside of the Company's platform.

9. Background Check & Eligibility

Contractor consents to the Company verifying the information provided on their application, including a background check where applicable, as a condition of being approved to accept jobs.

10. Payment Terms

Contractor is paid promptly upon completion of each clean, via Zelle, Apple Pay, or another lawful payment method as mutually discussed and agreed upon between Contractor and the Company.

11. Term & Termination

This Agreement remains in effect until terminated by either party. Either the Company or Contractor may terminate this Agreement at any time, with or without cause, by providing notice to the other party. Sections 4 through 9 survive termination.

12. Governing Law & General Provisions

This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Texas. If any provision of this Agreement is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect. This Agreement, together with the information submitted on Contractor's application, is the entire understanding between the parties regarding this subject.
